Vice-President’s report - it was a wise decision to postpone the food drive and the meeting.
Treasurer’s report - we netted the most money from the 21 October dinner than any Spaghetti Dinner in the past - $6,156.00 - this report is not on the website - it is available upon request. We paid $1646.00 for shirts and hats. We are currently paying for two websites - Wicks is on month-to-month, and we have a one year contract with Webhosting Pad. The first round of scholarships is completed. We have $15,000.00 in the Scholarship Fund. Spaghetti Dinner profits went into the Scholarship fund. The committee will consider offering scholarships more than twice a year. Ken moved to accept the report, Wayne 2nd. Approved
Secretary’s report - no report
Website - Darrell is working on the transition - the new company has a different format - there is learning curve. We will continue to pay Wicks on a month to month basis until the new site is ready.
Food Drive - Saturday at the Larkspur Park = Peggy and Jim in AM, Ed, Kay and Wayne in PM; Dave and Bryan all day at PP entrance. Jeff Smith will be at the Church to collect the food.
Spaghetti Dinner report - Kay as Event Lead - Kay is very grateful to all of the volunteers that worked the dinner, and those who solicited prizes for the raffle and silent auction. She has a special thank you to the people who labored from noon till opening to set the whole auction up - Wayne Moore, Mindy Kazurova, Amy Ford, Debbie Lefor, and Ed Chambers. It was fabulous! Huge thank you to Jim Godley for setting up the silent auction bid numbers, collecting the money, and organizing the winners. Thank you to Wayne and Darrell who designed the LVFA poster, and to the LFPD who added an animated poster. We used both, and the publicity was amazing. We had a new diner traffic pattern that worked beautifully. We also changed the organization of the raffle to items over $100.00 went on a silent auction, and those under were in the raffle. Supplies need to be checked as we used up several items.
Jim would like to buy some additional signs as one was damaged by the wind. He would like us to have 7 signs total for advertising our events.
Ken recommends: a three-person kitchen, with suggestions on how to keep the food cooked and moving to the servers.
We ran out of sauce again this year. Ken says that we sold 165 tickets, yet we served 18 volunteers and 8 Firefighters in addition to those sold tickets.
He suggests a strict control of portion size - and a reorganization of the serving tables; salad and rolls first, pasta second, sauces third. He recommends a 1.5 cup of spaghetti and 1/2-3/4 c (one dipper) of sauce. He says that if we use a three compartment plate, fill the largest section with salad, then the smaller section with pasta, people will still have a full plate. If people wanted a bigger portion, they could be encouraged to come back for refills instead of giving them a big portion to start with.
He also suggests that there be a pre-service meeting for kitchen personnel and servers to go over the portions, responsibilities and actions.
Scholarship Program - we awarded 2 scholarships. We currently have $15,000.00 in the fund. The scholarships are available to all in the LFPD, with a focus on helping early career firefighters.
Fundraising - Bingo is on hold for now. We did not win the Walmart Grant. Jim reapplied in November. He emphasized the Scholarship Program. Wayne will write an email to various sources for donations.
Kay called for a vote on our continuing the road clean-up project. Bryan 2nd. The vote was an unanimous “No”. We will discontinue the program.
Food certificate Holiday gift for the Firefighters. We voted to up the amount to $350.00 per shift. Ken moved to accept this increase, and Jim 2nd. An unanimous “Yes” vote. Ed, Wayne, and Jim will find out from which grocery store they prefer the certificate should come and what kind of card. Jim will purchase the cards.
Tree Decorating - Saturday, 23 November from 9 - 12.
Tree Lighting - December 7 - be there at 3:30. It is over around 7:30 -
Kay will send an email to the group asking for volunteers - please RSVP to Peggy Whalen if you can help with either of these events. We get a free tree.
The Pancake Breakfast has been booked with Mindy at the Spur for Saturday AM - May 1. No project lead has volunteered.
No meetings in December or January. Next meeting February 5. Location TBD.
Jim moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:42.
